need to give this a relisten, i think i had different expectations when i first heard this. i remember thinking this was too "clean" for my tastes–i like my sludgy metal a little bit dingier. not my favorite metal subgenre in general tho

I think of them as having a dirty Louisiana sound that incorporates blues doom dm etc, not necessarily a 'sludge metal' band in the modern context at least. I definitely don't think of this as sounding clean at all but idk what you were expecting. genre labels can be funny when it comes to labeling something almost 30 years old

Yeah, viewing this as sludge in the Eyehategod realm would maybe lead to disappointment. This is a smorgasbord of varying ideas, one of which being sludge. The riffs are sludgy, the themes are suited to such a thing, but there’s a lot more going on here.

If you like the stonier / bluesier side of their sound then Paegan Terrorism Tactics is better in all honesty
