@Aftertheascension Agreed. I saw them live this year and I was really disappointed to see a see of young girls was the general crowd.

His voice is a little high for me at times, and I already love Geddie Lee and Claudio Sanchez and Tillian Pearson...but I'll get used to it. Dude's in his mid 30's and still pulls off high highs -- not bad.
Some of the cheesy fake/electronic elements like the stutters/"glitches" that happen here and there are reminiscent of some bands I really hate, but I'll get over it.
I'm just forgiving a lot of stuff I usually hate because I love their sense of urgency and melody and what I once thought was mediocre generic drumming is actually pretty cool in some songs. Like the latin influence here and there.
I checked out some videos of the live drumming and an interview with the vocalist. They actually seem like they're very humble and cool dudes these days. I'm suddenly excited for this new album! Because what I'm hearing on the last album is pretty cool, but it's on the verge of greatness if it was refined and matured just a little bit more, which is probably what the upcoming album will achieve.

tbh I just hope they step a tiny bit away from the overtly whiney / overbearing, self harm and suicide lyrics.

Yeah you got that right. When I can hear enough to discern the lyrics....well....now I know where the fangirl fanbase comes from. Yikes! They've probably matured a lot since then and should probably shy away from some of the cringier aspects of the past. Absolute definition of a guilty pleasure band.

tbh I always thought I hated PTV until I let myself listen to CWTS when it came out. I loved it. I think PTV just seems like they would suck and you judge them before giving them a chance.

Good way of describing it! Awful image and fanbase, good music

YOU GUYS.
Caraphernelia and The New National Anthem are superb. Wow. This is reminding me of back when I ignored Fall of Troy, thinking they were a shitty emo band (even after accidentally catching them live), until years later finding out they're great after having patience and not judging a book by it's cover.
If anything, I'm liking their second-last album even more than their last. More hooks, I think.
Especially The New National Anthem. Come on. That second verse leading to the chorus? It's all so bouncy and has such a great momentum without going to cheesy. Shit's gonna be stuck in my head a while.

coming back to this after misadventures has really put into perspective how mind blowing the songwriting on this is and how many new ideas this band really had
