Scenes had some ridiculous wank but it was done well with the music it worked.
|
| |
Most of the wank on Scenes is limited to Beyond This Life

Fatal Tragedy too (one of my favorites on there), that second half?

Yeah, perhaps, but the wank there is so good that it doesn't even matter, especially the ending

That's exactly what I've been saying this whole time

Fair enough. I also think there's a lack of sonic variation in their solos, which has been a common theme since SC
|

ok probably not gonna check this then ctrl + f "wank"

yah, the t/t is well worth the listen, even if you're not into this kind of stuff normally. Most of the conversation wasn't even about this album anyway

I don't get how people can be a fan of DT and complain about the wank.
I would think DT fans would understand by now that wank is part of the DT sound. What great DT album or song doesn't have wank?
On albums like SC and ADTOE they just shove it in wherever they want and it doesn't work as well from a songwriting standpoint and therefore annoying to listen to because it doesn't sound good to a listener.
You just answered your own query. No one on the last few pages of this thread is complaining about the wank in general just on certain albums (ToT in this case) where it sounds terrible.

At least two users were saying that DT used to keep the wank under control and that it was tasteful in the 90's stuff but over-the-top now. I was saying that they actually wanked just as much on I&W as they do on SC and the most on Scenes, that the only difference now is that it's used more awkwardly in the songwriting. Personally it doesn't really bother me because overall the music is still great. The most annoying thing to me about their three or four most recent ones has been the singing and lyrics, I think that's gotten way more insufferable over the years than the music itself
|
| |
I&W and Awake especially has far less wank than on their post-Scenes albums though
|
| |
I think by tasteful they probably meant it used to be good. And I wouldn't say they wanked the most on Scenes, only like 3 songs on that album have a large amount of wank.
Also A Change of Seasons is leagues ahead of this album's title track. Just because Octavarium is a 20 minute epic with minimal wank that flows reasonably well doesn't mean it's really good.
