i like reading allmusic.com sometimes for reviews but the opening for their major minor review is total fail

California alt-rockers Thrice's seventh album shies away from the introspective electronica of its predecessor, Beggars, and embraces the more aggressive and commercial sound established on 2005's Vheissu

lmao wow thats bad. Their reviews are usually pretty bad. Reading their review of A Sun That Never Sets just makes me angry.

"listened to it about 30 times all the way through and still think its the best album ever."
how can you tell that when it's only just been released?
|

I don't see why the release date would impact how much a person can enjoy an album- I wish I had an album good enough to listen to 30 times :/

yah i'm not sure what he's getting at. i've actually listened to quite a few albums a bunch of times but they usually wear off and go back to random listens. major/minor still going strong.
|
| |
That's awesome- I haven't found an album I enjoy that much in forever. I can say that Vheissu was played for like three straight months by me, though :]

Album's a grower for sure. And I really liked it a lot the first time I listened.
|
| |
I'm a little disappointed with it to be honest :[ I'm a Thrice fanboy, but only see their magic in a few of the songs. the others are still good though.

The first time i listened to this album I really liked it. Now I like it even more because of all the little things I've noticed in each individual part. The music may seem more straightforward than some of their older stuff but there's still so much to it, and I think that's what makes this album great.

Is it just me or have they turned into a full-on Christian rock band? Lyrics made me feel like I was listening to My Epic. And seriously do half the songs need drum drop-outs at the end of them.
|
| |
Well the thing is all of their stuff can be said to have a heavily Christian background; especially the Illusion of Safety, if you look at Deadbolt and See You in the Shallows. It is less subtle here though; however, I don't think it's overbearing.

I don't understand the hype surrounding this record. It just sounds bland, generic and forgettable to me. There are a
few good songs (Promises and the last four songs are ok), but on the whole this is even weaker than Beggars.
[Disclaimer: I only enjoy the band from Vheissu onward - there is nothing appealing in their older material to me.]

Just got this last night, my first Thrice album, and it's really good so far. The riffs are sexual...especially Cataracts.
