But what does it matter if the band is "good" or not? You will continue to listen to something if you enjoy it right? Doesn't that make it "good" to you?
Blackout does actually rule, one of the best songs all year. I might give this album another go.
|

yeah, whether or not a song or band is "good" is different to every person because people have
different perceptions and perspectives on what takes skill and talent to make. i don't give a fuck if
avenged sevenfold went more mainstream, they're my favorite band because i enjoy the music they make.
like with this, i'm sure a lot of people love this, but it's just not really my thing. most of it
anyways.
blackout still rules.

I see what you mean, but then what's the point on calling this good or calling that bad? What's bad for me will be good for you & vice versa. Is it music only subjective? I wouldn't say so.

nah, I think i'll explain myself better...
In my defense im still a fan cause I love all their previous work, I mean change is good but they shifted a 180 turn-around and changed style drastically, so much that for some of us it feels like a slap in the face...
I wonder what if they started with this style and then turned to nu metal, all the electronic synth pop fans would be seriously pissed off, know what I mean?

as this review I read:
"Did the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Eagles, etc. change with time? Yes they did. But did they change in a direction opposite to the desire of the grand majority of their fans? Did they change in such drastic fashion as to make the number of disappointed old fans far exceed the number of satisfied new ones? Did their change sound imposed upon their listeners rather than demanded? "
I agreed

blackout and the catalyst rule.

I really love that song of theirs plus maybe one or two more, but that's about it.

Ha, I only like their first three albums.

I completely disagree about this being a well-crafted album. Take the reggae influenced song. It sounds out of place in an album that attempts to be brooding and forecasting the tumultuous times of the past and that seem to be facing us today. The tribal beats in Mike Shinoda's song just detract from the anger and wind-up sounding terrible. I think it's the natural conclusion to their God-awful 2007 album.

This would totally get better ratings had this not been a Linkin Park album
No, it just would be forgotten and not reviewed by as many people. Yes, they've grown, but does it matter if it just makes them sound like brooding 30-year old men in a midlife crisis?

Album Rating: 3.5
That's your opinion on the subject. They said themselves that they wanted an album that they felt was right, not something that would please the masses. So they're not sounding like 30 yo men in midlife crisis... they just sounding more mature
|
| |
I already said this in some other thread, but they do not sound any more mature.. They simply re-crafted their angsty brand of rock to re-reach the mainstream masses once nu-metal went out of style.

oh please do you really think that this album is going to please mainstream masses?? It's not at all like anything they've done before
|
| |
Neither was the god awful album that was on MtM.... But that still managed to top the charts pretty much everywhere... People love this synthy/whiny/poppy/whatever the fuck you want to call it stuff. It will sell billions.
