Do you really believe that you can judge the path that a band will go down by just their first three albums? I mean look at In Flames, Megadeth, Testament, and a whole assortment of others. I do believe in respecting people's opinions but that is narrowminded to just say things like that. I don't mean to argue like this, I was just fully explaining my opinion.

pretty harsh review. i thought the guitar work and drumming was amazing. very few bands out there seem to play with that kind of fury. most just play dropped D tunings and rarely use the entire fretboard. trivium has mad potential. these guys can out play just about all of us who listen to this album. they have the pedigree of metallica, pantera and megadeth. hopefully they get better with age and the industry doesn't fuck with their sound or direction too badly

Trivium do play in drop D, the did have potential until they wasted it completely on The Crusade, those bands don't give one a pedigree, and The Crusade has eradicated their credibility.

It seemed to me by just reading the beginning of your review that you don't like this band at all so you really shouldn't be writing reviews about bands you don't like. How does an intro give you doubts about an entire album?

I had never heard anything by this band until I listened to the album several times through for this review. It's about as unbiased as reviews get, really. Just because my opinion happens to be negative doesn't mean I had a preconceived idea of them or that some other mitigating circumstance applies.

Surely its as conctructive to write reviews of albums you don't like as well as ones you do. Gives a balance of opinions.

Are you kidding me? You can't tell me that you would say the same things in this review about a band that you like. You obviously wouldn't think they were bad if you liked them. If you don't like a band your gonna find it's pretty easy to find negative things to say about them and thats what i think this review is doing.

Hehehe. These two statements are funny. The negative part goes the other way. Some one called 'Trivium' wrote a review which gave this album a 5. Do you think he was very subjective about this album? Do you think he would lots of positive things as he quite obviously likes Trivium? This review just paints another picture as to how this album could be concieved.

Someone who is indifferent should be talking about it not people that love them or hate them. If you don't already have a preconceived idea about it then your review will be much more accurate. I personally love Trivium and think all their cd's are fucking amazing so i'm not gonna write a review or it would be all positives. In the same case someone who thinks all their cd's suck shouldn't because they're gonna say all negatives.

If you love an album, or band, then you should step bacn and look at the album objectively. Just becaus you love it doesn't mean you can't think that a riff was a bit cliched, or that a singer wasn't in key. You should be able to disengage your personal feelings, and write a fair review.
This review i feel is fair, and the points are backed up incontrovertably.

Well I have news for you kid. Most of us are intelligent enough to be able to speak fairly. We back up what we say, we deliver our opinions with maturity and intelligence, and we're not afraid to trash albums we don't like even if they're from bands that we do like.

I just like everything about this album so there's nothing i can really point out that's bad, which is why i'm not gonna write a review all of you other idiots. Some people wanna know the cons and i have none to say about it. I just feel like this guy doesn't like Trivium so its a lot easier for him to say bad things about them. Dude, your not even grasping the concept of a review. By your logic to review an album you have to have somesort of lukewarm opinion about it. That's not how it works at all. It's simply your take on the album, whether you think it's good or bad. Nothing more.

I think the guy is trying to make a valid point, but rather than saying don't review it, he should be point out the need for objectivity over personal preference. Just a thought.
At the same time, though he is making the wrong point, saying stupid stuff never really helps solve anything, does it now.
