I think he's better than what would be considered guilty pleasure material, I just think he's kind of overrated. Props to him for being the only Def Jux member that isn't a mouthbreathing backpacker.

I'd take Aesop over Sole and Eyedea like 9 times out of 10

Cage kinda sucks and obviously Sage Francis is terrible

I mean maybe if partying was just sitting in a corny sipping robotussin and wishing you were at a party counts then hell yea you can get down to this at any party.

"I'd take Aesop over Sole and Eyedea like 9 times out of 10"
that's cuz you sux dix. Aesop is my least favorite member of Def Jux besides that Despot guy. Probably out of the whole backpacker label trifecta besides Brother Ali and some other generic shitty Rhymesayers rappers/anticon albums for neanderthals (aka 4/5 of every Doseone project)

Shadows on the Sun rules, but most of the Brother's other stuff is whack

Aesop is actually the best guy on Def Jux not named El-P (but Labor Days is the best Def Jux album). I mean if you don't get that idk what to tell you.

haven't listened to any Despot, but yea Doseone is obviously awful too.

Shadows on the Sun sux. And El-P, Del, Cannibal Ox and Cage have all put out better albums than Labor Days tbh, sorry cuz.

"and Subtle's A New White are better than labor days"

i mean maybe if you only listen to hip hop for teh beatz then it might be but that would make you a

fake ass hip hop head

every hip hop fan's taste should be 60/40 lyrics over beats minimum TRUTH

Besides 4 or 5 songs, this would be pretty awkward for a party, and you people know why.

Labour Days is good, but I feel like it piques out in the first few tracks.

How many parties do you go to where people are playing songs like, "E.R.," "Great Dane," and "View Items"? There's a certain theatricality about this album, and an overlying theme of darkness and psychedelia that I just think would translate awkwardly in a party atmosphere. And by 'party' I don't mean a casual hangout with 5-7 friends.

Saywhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

I don't listen to it just for the beats and I think different types of hip-hop have different contexts but I hardly ever put the lyrics themselves over the production. Maybe the rapping in its entirety (charisma, lyrics, delivery, flow, technicality, etc.) can take priority (like I said, depending on the actual artist) but c'mon, cuz.

well yeah that's what I meant, but it was mostly sarcasm

and The Cold Vein falls terribly short in that department

well I don't get things on the internet cuz I'm kinda dumb but The Cold Vein lyrics weren't bad or anything. Just not mindblowing.

yea I guess not, I'm just not crazy about Vast Aire's entire flow/voice/lyrics

what makes it worse is when people constantly quote some of the more asinine lyrics from it and make them out to be revolutionary or something

IF YOU DONT SUCCEED TRY TRY AGAIN, STEP UP TO THE MIC, AND DIE AGAIN

THIS IS THE NEXT LIFETIME AND YOU WANT TO BATTLE

EITHER YOU LIKE REINCARNATION OR THE SMELL OF CARNATIONS

like, ok
