How do people hate Runaways or Afraid of Everyone they're fucking brilliant. Afraid of Everyone is probably my favorite, with Blood Buzz, Runaways, and Terrible Love

Its clearly the most simple song but I also think it's got the strongest hook, and some of the best lyrics.

I first thought he was saying "You and your sister live in a lemonworld, I'm on a cinnamon diet."

Afraid of Everyone is my fave off the album. Lemonworld is sub par.

I think it was the cokemachineglow review that hit on my opinion best; it veers SO close to self-parody.

i agree with that in the sense that this album does veer to being a bit over the top in my mind, but i dont mind at all because the national are such a catchy band.

i dont know, i feel like even though alligator and boxer still depressed me to oblivion there was a certain lighter tone to them that made them kindof better but not really because i love this

I could understand the tonal difference between this and say Alligator but honestly, thematically this is a lot more uplifting than Boxer I find.

maybe its the loss of hope in the record, where as on Boxer they seemed to be fighting it. here, with Violet its like they've broken down and given up in the best way possible.



but I'm a sucker for dystopias sooooo

no but the stuff on alligator was a lot more, sort of, qualified in its seriousness. i.e. friend of mine is really dark and awesome sounding but he says stuff like "i miss you like hell, man." this sound sort of less believable and cute-sy, and we both know how much i like tweeness, yeti.
