yes, you are the only one who thinks that this album, and album loved and cherished by many, is the greatest album ever made.

I just downloaded "King of Carrot Flowers pt 1" and my first thought is: Am I listening to the same band? People found that voice annoying?

I kinda did at first but I got used to it. When he strained to get up high it used to make me grind my teeth

I must have chose one of the better vocal performances on the album then.
In any case this just moved way up on my wishlist. Everyone saying stuff about his voice made me think "aw man it'll take as long as Jane Doe to grow on me", but I guess I have a head start on that.

If you don't appreciate the voice as being emotional, it will seem simply like an out of tune voice wailing. Which essentially it is, but whatever.

Yeah that's basically how I got used to it North
The music is pretty easy to get into other than the voice though. It's also fucking great.

@Shrapnel94
No, I too believe it to be the best album I've ever heard.
It took me about a week of listening and reading up on references made throughout the album (including Anne Frank) to truly get my head and heart around it the enormity of it. It is as masterful piece of genius. The thick, layered vocals and guitar, coupled with the Salvation Army style marching band brass makes for a wonderfully unique sound.
And Jeff Mangum's vocals are unrivaled. He somehow captures the fragile, heartbreaking melancholy that weaves throughout whilst maintaining a forceful yet beautiful edge.
The lyrics are indeed curious, but their fantastical and surreal nature perfectly suit the feelings and emotion present on the album.
Brilliant.

Agreed. Mangum may not have been (or is not) technically that great at singing, as seen in late parts of Oh Comely.. But there's something about his voice that makes it so unique, and he gets this sort of emotion in it that makes the album so great. Of course it is a brilliant album instrumentally as well, I even love the short untitled song before it wobles to Two-Headed Boy Pt. Two. There's actually several different instuments used in the album, playing mostly in the background. And I love the last line of the album;
But don't hate her when she gets up to leave

Oh, forgot to mention how much I LOVE the haunting effect of the 'Singing Saw'. It is incredibly effective, particularly on the track In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
