Fireball is awesome. No One Came is one of the more underappreciated songs ever.

Machine Head is my favorite. In Rock comes in 2nd and Fireball in 3rd.

Fireball is my favourite DP studio album.

As much as it rules, I can't imagine ever placing it above In Rock and Machine Head.

In Rock comes close but Fireball has a certain charm that gives it the edge for me. Machine Head feels a bit too restrained for Deep Purple to my ears. It's easily the most streamlined of their 3 classic studio albums and while obviously having some classic songs (that really came to life in a live setting) I prefer it when the band are a bit looser if you know what I mean.

This is awesome, but yeah, agreed on the restraint.

Don't really understand what you mean by "restrained", Jamie.

tight and clean, maybe? there isn't much jamming on Machine Head outside of Lazy, whereas Fireball has No, No, No, The Mule, Fools, and No One Came that all have extended soloing and chill instrumental sections.

Yeah I mean restrained in terms of the musicianship. There is very little exploration or adventure on this album compared to their previous two albums.

The band went for tighter song writing on this album, which is often a good thing but I think Purple, particularly the MK. II line-up, really excelled when they stretched out a bit more.

I try to like deep purple and I do a few songs but that keyboard sound can just be so over bearing

Yeah, definitely get what you're saying here.

Neverless, it's still impressive how songs like Lazy, Pictures of Home and Highway Star made it on here.

Jon Lord was indeed one of the best parts of this band.

No Jon Lord no Deep Purple really. But I can understand people not liking the organ sound as much as others.

Blackmore and Lord should have seriously united more while Lord was still living.

I won't deny the Smoke on the Water riff is catchy. The song is prob a bit better than Never Before.
