Really? I think their newer album feels more genuine than this...I mean this is a cool album but it feels like they're trying too

hard. Thankfully, they don't sound anywhere near as stupid as they did on Systematic Chaos though...that album was bullshit

minus a couple good moments.

Their latest album beats this agreed, thats not saying much though. And I thought SC was decent.

I don't know why I can't get into this band. I should love them.

SC is at some points really good and at some points just plain awful

I was obsessed with them when I was younger, but the older I get the less I connect with them. Kinda sucks :/

Still love two or three of their albums.

"I don't know why I can't get into this band. I should love them"

I was like that for a long time, mostly due to Labrie's vocals.

I was obsessed with them when I was younger, but the older I get the less I connect with them.[2]

But I think it's more because they're still being children trying to show off their technical skills rather than compose mature, thought provoking progressive music.

It's also the fact that almost every album they do is 70+ minutes, it has to be pretty amazing to justify that length.

Very true, it gets really exhausting now, before I was fine with the length but now the music isn't interesting enough to be bearable for the full CD length.

'I was like that for a long time, mostly due to Labrie's vocals.'

That's exactly it man.

I listened to the Metropolis(?) album and was blown away by the last four tracks.

Dude, I've always said that (well, since after a week of hearing scenes)

Awake feels way less contrived and bloated but still kinda epic
