"Can’t trust a man with this at 3.5 while multiple Opeth albums are sitting at 4.5."

"Neurosis A Sun That Never Sets

3.5

01.07.25"

at least my Opeth ratings are somewhat historic / nostalgic, this was 3 days ago!

3.5 is considered "great" on Sputnik. I'd say that is a great album. What is your point?

I consider this "great" but that didn't stop you from attempting to Opeth shame me upon seeing this generally positive rating. Maybe if I'd thrown shade in here it might've worked better as a 'comeback' of sorts, just a thought

But you forgot the golden rule/exception: Opeth fans need be shamed at every conceivable opportunity!!

Inferiority complex or something? I guess anything attaining that level of adoration tends to have a backlash eventually, but you're like a decade (at least) late there grandpa.

I mean I've been bashing them for years (especially their recent output), lol

back to srs biz, where does DM (now) rank your musical yearnings? Has it progressed beyond "I'm blasting this out because it works as a gym accompaniment" territory - I'm sensing a shift here

Yes and it has been that way for quite some time now, I'd say. DM (or any subgenre of metal, for that matter) just happens to be the most suitable "background" music for the gym. Need something that subconsciously doesn't put me to sleep but is also easy enough to mentally ignore (?) for the most part.

That said, I (obviously) never critically evaluate anything I'm listening to at the gym, mostly because I'm not truly "listening" to it. (In fact I rarely - if ever - listen to something "new" at the gym - almost always repeats.) Shift happened sometime around...2018-ish? When death metal (and metal in totality) became more of an active-listening "I'm seeking out albums" genre for me rather than just something to specifically zone out to.

Ascended 2018+ tec = best tec, evidently.

Also had to look up what a wedgie is. Hilariously true, even if I have no stake in the Opeth feud.

That sounds awesome and a nice change of pace. My metal the last few weeks has been exclusively Nevermore and Meshuggah lol

"comments like that would get you a wedgie irl"

I'd be a little miffed if my mate gave me a wedgie after engaging in a bit of mutual banter / larking around, especially if they started it, lol

...not that receiving a wedgie is a particularly likely outcome over here

yeah, I did wonder. That makes sense. So it kinda(?) sounds like what was once a relationship of convenience is blossoming into genuine affection. You love to see it.
