But we discovered that these lads think black women are a funny joke! Surely that gives it some value?

i'm sure i can name some bands where everyone on this site is in the minority for disliking them, compared to people in the real world
i dont think appeal to popularity is a particularly compelling argument

you're claiming people who heard this in 'the real world' didn't like it that much?
Now that's not a no 'particularly compelling argument' vs it being pretty well revered as an top tier example of the genre by most online aggregator sites
I just asked what you weren't into bout it. Like, it's cool if you don't like it, but I'm a bit confused when someone sees a revered album and argues actually people don't like it irl

there's some good moments here, it's a big case of "if you're impressed by this surely you'll be impressed by anything with the same tropes"
i guess that's probably a sell for the peak/valley diehards, but it's v much not what post-rock is about for me. also the production is skiffy (probs excusable) and the drumming totally blows (probs not)

Standard post rock climaxes genuinely don't do a huge amount for me, I think this album perfects that trope - and sure it's a trope - but there aren't even a huge amount of big climaxes here.
They're skillfuly woven in - not really the focus of the songs as with much bad post rock, but more an accentuator to the atmosphere and melodies the rest of the music focuses on
my feeling anyway

i mean since we're going there, having a small number of very focal climaxes (which these most defs are and are v emphatically built up as such) holding together a similarly small number of songs is another big post-rock 101
