If KWAS and Horizons are freshly baked, soft, warm chocolate chip cookies, Atlas and Deep Blue are those same cookies after they’ve sat on the counter for 2 weeks

KWAS didn't sit with me as well as it seems to have for others, maybe I just need to revisit all their albums again.

How can Winston say nobody likes metalcore when the first 4 albums are their best and most well received ones?

Maybe nobody likes good newer metalcore...idk, just a hunch since the scene seems to be following the directions of Wage War outside of 1st wave revival (which tbh is a fucking godsend for the genre at this point)

Currents and Polaris are pretty popular though and they're two of the best metalcore bands right now

Touche, though it took a bit of time for me to really "get" Currents.

Maybe I've been way too hyperbolic with the newer shit because I've found it difficult to find stuff that actually follows in the footsteps of the 2000s melodicore scene. Maybe the fact I praise the fuck out of Miss May I so much is all in vain for that matter, because clearly that sound is not the trend.

Most well received by who? Metalcore fans? Whoopee. If you just look across critic publications that reviewed/rated their stuff over the years, it has been pretty steady across all releases if anything. With slight down ticks for Reverence but I mean. And their positions on the charts haven’t really changed at all either with Ire or Reverence. I’m not trying to say I care about chart position or critics, because I really don’t st all, just kinda curious where your “most well received” comment is coming from, outside of metalcore fans. Like, if you just look at their Facebook page, yeah, there’s lots of people bitching about the new stuff, but those same people usually listen to nothing but metalcore lol

Just throw the whole metalcore genre in rice already.

I mean at least we have 1st wave revival. Shit, I'd even take the likes of Code Orange over some of the dumb bullshit I've heard in the mainstream metalcore wing...at least the wing that hasn't rightfully abandoned that ship because they know it's going down. From what I'm gathering, the "revival" of the early sound is rekindling the old DIY punk roots the genre had but for a younger audience.

@jeet: yeah at this point it's almost time for a new subgenre to take over where metalcore was supposed to have left off. Even this nu metal revival shit is a mixed bag at best.

Bruh all these newer bands are boring as fuck. I want bands to either get more aggresive or to just go totally left field and start making weirder shit.

"I want bands to either get more aggresive or to just go totally left field and start making weirder shit."

fuck getting more aggressive because half these bands don't have a sense of actual dynamic and will probably end up getting samey as all hell when trying to do that (even The Agony Scene's latest was pretty samey, and I loved it), but I'm down for them making some weird shit. Like for real, I'd probably dig even Wage War more if they went in a more industrial metal direction.

I’ll take weird over aggressive for the sake of just being aggressive 9 times out of 10

Darkest Hour's latest album is the perfect example of a band getting more aggressive without sacrificing the melodic dynamics. If more bands could figure out how to be raw as fuck and convey emotion without resorting to Risecore style cleans the scene wouldn't be so boring.
