'Put Steve McQueen on at work the other day, nobody danced, flamboyantly or otherwise. The times they are a’changin’'
my flamboyant dancing is a private affair and i would never dare do it in a work setting

"I will never forget that excerpt from the inside cover of the CD that Kompys shared."
The one where he's self-harming inside the car outside the chick's house to The Pixies' "Debaser"? That read more like a short story to me. And an excellently scary one at that.
And I really don't think Phantom Limb's lyrics touch these lyrics or even the one's on Terrifyer, despite being a cut far above most heavy music lyrics out there. Best PxDx lyrics on Prowler, hands down.

Yeah, those are pretty good. A highlight on that record.
The whole overarching concept to nearly all of these is just nuts though. Very important to how well they register. Even Cheerleader Corpses is nuts. Evacuating Heaven is nuts. Tickets to the Car Crash, Hyperviolet, etc. Nearly every song. The surreal, traumatized horror of it all.

Best Pig Destroyer right here, hard agreed. Atmosphere got siphoned off in favor of (more)(killer) riffs on the subsequent stuff

I think the riffs in this and Terrifyer are about neck and neck. And people don't talk about Scott Hull enough in best guitarist conversations. Each song has like 4 riffs in 30 seconds every one of them is just a bop, catchy and brutal.

Oh yeah, that’s what I’m saying, riffs on this and Terrifyer (and PL not far off) are all crazily visceral. But there’s an additional atmosphere here that’s hard to quantify but is totally unique in their discog

Oh for sure, all the different noises, panning, and vocal effects add something tangible and creepy to the songs.

Yessir that's the one. Also, I really gave this a solid listen tonight while reading along to the lyrics and that short story... I think its finally earned this 5.

It felt so right man. I can't describe to you effectively how much this album resonates with me. But I'll try. I'm usually not one for over the top, gory, bullshit violence for the sake of violence type lyricism and musicianship (looking at you CC) but this album... has a simply unmatched atmosphere of terror. The lyrics aren't ridiculously out of line for a weak shock value. They're meticulously thought out, strangely poetic, and dare I say... Beautiful? Yet still, beyond fucked up. Contrasted with how brutal the songs themselves and the album art are, everything about this rules and there's no other score more fitting than a 5.

Only JR Hayes could make that line sound terrifying.

Yeah, dude. Honestly beautiful makes perfect sense to me when describing this album's concept. I think I read in an interview somewhere that JR has creative writing background and it definitely shows if true. The man's an artist. This definitely hits way more effectively than any of those stupid gore porn lyrics cause it follows a narrative and an aesthetic and it's made with taste. It honestly works on a level of terror that a lot of gross-out/shock bands could never achieve.

We on a favorite lyrics posting binge?
There were mortal wounds inflicted on the sky
And incriminating blue stains on my shirt
God is that a brilliant line, as is every line on Starbelly.
