Stoked, I found an 11” X 17” promotional poster of the cover art for this album at some Canadian shop online. It was the only one. Ordered that bad boy. Just wish it were bigger but I ain’t mad.

I have no fucking clue why I had this as a 3 as this is simply great. Lost to Apathy has one of the greatest solos within the genre. This is an easy 4.

It's their best record and one of the best metal records ever. The creativity and intensity is top tier, the passion and anger are palpable. Just an unrelenting wave of force from start to finish

naw man, to me this is the full realization of their style and sound, The Gallery's great, but this is THE definitive DT album

I've come to enjoy Projector more and more as I get older. Always loved it, but it's creeping toward my top 3 DT recently due to it being super adventurous and diverse. Construct is awesome as well, but for some reason I don't return to it as often. Interesting that you would lump those 2 being a certain style, tho. Food for thought

Comparing this to the Gallery is apples and oranges, they are totally different styles. The Gallery is great for what it is, but I agree this era was the most realized this band ever was. I think that's why they made Damage Done two additional times. They had found their sound on that 3 album run, and We Are The Void felt like a "need" to change.

Christian Alvestam could probably give him a run for his money.

Stanne's harsh vocal game is just so damn smooth
He's got a hellish growl but at the same time it's like butter to the ears

I think one of the most impressive things about Stanne is his longevity. He's shown absolutely zero wear and tear throughout rhe years.

Skydancer rules even if Stanne takes more of a backseat role on the album. I mean, A Bolt of Blazing Gold, Nightfall by the Shore of Time, Crimson Winds... it still holds up on its own imo.

I mean Friden's ok when he sticks to his harsh vox. Nothing exceptional, but on Skydancer and the first few classic In Flames records they did the job. When his clean vox come in...now that's when things take a turn for the worse. Dude's cleans sound like a cross between a cat that's caught a cold and Jonathan Davis while having an asthma attack.

Yeah, I won't deny Anders' harsh vox are much better than his cleans, though my fav In Flames albums are the ones where he almost exclusively uses harsh vox, and if he doesn't he just goes for a low mumble which I can handle more than him actually singing, so I don't have to worry about that too much. I just don't think it's right to invalidate Skydancer even if The Gallery is understandably better. Both are great imo.
