my 1's are sacred and hold a special place in my heart. if they didn't make me feel unadulterated rage at least once while listening, they're probably 1.5+

Listened to it 3 times now and I don’t get this album’s praise. What am I missing

Ears, apparently.

Riffs sound really basic. Drumming is okay. Chino’s vocals are fine although they definitely shine in certain spots. Production is very good tho

the band plays basic riffs tbf, it's more about their unique sound and solid melodies
|
| |
I’m well aware of their unique sound on previous records but I’m just not hearing it on this.

i liked it on the first listen, and then after 15 playthroughs i began to hate it. just awful. i berated other listeners for being idiot sheeple, fiving an album that is like, 2.5 at best. on my 16th listen i finally started enjoying it again. i have the documentation if anyone needs to see it
so my advice is listen 16 times and then you'll understand

Put it to rest. We don t have all to like the same things, but perhaps with genuine mindset and no sput preasure you can enjoy some of it. Noone s asking to get the 5, only to enjoy the music x)

If this helps my first spin was 3.5 then those middle tracks from Spell of Math to Radiant City start to really shine...the riffs are simple yet the music its not.

I crunched the numbers and at my rate of growing album approval with diminishing returns factored in, I only have to listen 32 more times before this becomes a five. Thanks for the patience everyone!

Yeah for new listeners this album really starts to shine at tracks 5 to 8.
Then with a few more listens, you notice both Error and Headless are bangers.
Next you find yourself really liking Genesis and Ceremony.
Before you know it, the whole album is a banger except for Ohms which is pretty meh on its own but becomes really good as a closer for this specific album.
And then you 5 it.

That's the thing about tones, they are great songwriters. None of the stuff they make is particularly complex, but they just make it work really well, for the most part.

Headless was my fav on first listen

for me genesis and ohms were standouts initially, with ceremony and radiant city being the only other tracks I really enjoyed at all
only recently have the middle tracks started to grow somewhat
still a long long way off a 5

@pika yessssss. I think rapture is like the most complex song they’ve written and even that is pretty easy to follow
