Sorrow at track 2 is just not fair :[

This may be the first National album I slap with a 5 but need a few more listens. Seeming more like a 4.5 right now.

Anyone’s Ghost is so filler/throwaway. The only track here that could be omitted.

Kinda like that one in sequence but it's not a highlight. Always thought Afraid of Everyone and Little Faith were kinda interchangeable with each other and that Vanderlyle should have been slashed entirely to let things close on England

Just listened to the alternate Terrible Love and, while I love it on the album, the alternate is so much better — especially the last minute or so. So much clearer.

“Anyone’s Ghost” is a perfect little tune, love the drums, melody, the lyrics advance the themes of the album, with their depiction of how depression can deteriorate a relationship, yeah it’s a faultless song for me.

I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again, the version of “Terrible Love” on the album is the one that needs to be here, it’s a better thematic realization of the song than the alternate version. The murkiness is essential to set up the themes of the album right off the bat, that last minute where it builds into an ocean of noise which represents drowning, perhaps in depression or alcohol or both; one of the major thematic tensions I pick up on in the album is the imagery of water as reflecting the overwhelmingness of depression and the use of alcohol as a coping mechanism even if it actually makes things worse.
