Yeah Mein is one of my least favorite Deftones songs.
WP just has such an amazingly consistent eerie and haunting tone/vibe/atmosphere to it, between Feticiera, Digital Bath, Change, Passenger, Pink Maggit — I mean, come on. Lightning in a bottle. Doubt they’ll ever top it. Definitely a desert island album.

Koi isn’t their best, but Rosemary, Tempest, Leathers and Entombed are some of their best songs.

Agreed with everything Larkin said.
"Poltergeist" is also an absolute jam, though.

I have it as fifth right now, but I'd probably bump Adrenaline or S/T over it depending on the day.

I've never understood the mentality that a bad song would actually detract from someone's enjoyment of an album. This comes up frequently with aenima and lateralus too. Like yeah I get that the interludes on the whole are fucking useless but theres a significant amount of material that u enjoy. Like how does subtracting a song give something a higher score or a higher level of enjoyment for the album on the whole? I just dont get the mindset where people say something like "yeah this'd be a 5 if it wasnt for that one song."

Well, if a song I don't care for is part of the record in question, then obviously it's going to affect the score in some way. For me personally, when I give an album a score, I'm looking at everything it has to offer. I wouldn't rank an album a 5 if I really absolutely loved five songs but the rest was absolute garbage, now would I? But saying that might be off-track since your point appears to be the case of if you love all of a record except for one, maybe two songs. Well, that's what the ranking of 4.5 can also take the meaning of for some people. However, my ranking of it being a 4.5 is both in tandem with the songs I don't care for and the fact that there is still some potential in the sound Deftones approach on this album that could have made it a stronger listen. Sometimes an album is strong enough to overcome the songs that people don't care for and sometimes there are other reasons.

I think 4.5 ratings are perfect for albums where you love the whole album, minus a song or two, or you don't like something about the mix or whatever. But overall, you really enjoy the record as a whole.
The 5 rating is for when YOU personally think the album is perfect regardless of any faults it has, if any. Pretty much if you feel a strong a connection to it, as to where the negatives it may have don't have any effect on your enjoyment or love for the album.

Idk its weird and hard to explain. Like there are short albums I've 5d (assuck - misery index to name one) that are super short like 17 mins long. There are also super long albums I've 5d (k-rino - annihilation of the evil machine, it's a super long double album) where not every song is an absolute banger or whatever but the collective material makes me feel something very significant or moves me greatly and I feel it deserves a 5. Same with 1's and so forth. I just have never jived with the mentality that if a particular album would have been say, the best 7 songs on the album it would be a 5, but because it has 2 songs that are filler or not good or whatever, it is then a 4.5. For me its gonna be a 5 regardless.
Idk if that makes any sense. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into it lol

I can understand where you're coming from. Sometimes that happens to me too, but usually the weakest song[s] gotta be pretty high in quality already. =P

dammit stop hating on Pink Cellphone, it's a pretty cool Trip-Hop tune that I think gives the record quite a bit of variety and character, making it as unique as it is
if anybody was curious about how much variety they have, I'd recommend them the stretch from Xerces (beautiful sad shoegazey tones) > Pink Cellphone (dope trip-hop) > Rats! (crazy post hardcore monster)

Or, like you said, they add to the overall feel of the record very well.

Not denying it gives it character, but it's so skip-able that I do it almost every time.

I apply this overarching mentality to this album by saying, yeah pink cellphone is pretty bad, but just because it is bad doesnt detract from the overall greatness of the album for me. In other words, pink cellphone doesnt bring the album down for me. It wouldn't be a 5 without punk cellphone. I guess rating like that seems weird to me.

pink cellphone is just proof that deftones fans don't have a sense of humour and will never realise that guitars are gey and archaic
