"Anyone who rates the new album 3.5+ simply has to 5 this album - they've already made the decision whether they know it or not"
Been done for years ;-)

Maybe I only feel this way because it was this time of year when I first got into this album in 2013, but does anyone else think of this as a summer album of sorts? One of my fondest memories from that summer was listening to "Runaway" while on a playground swingset at sunset

Exact opposite for me. Will never forget hearing "Sorrow" in the icy January air; the soundtrack to my worst breakup. Whole album has a chilly feeling.

To be fair, it originally had a working title of Summer Lovin’ Torture Party

Nah winter album confirmed. I know better than the band does.

This isn’t a seasonal album so much as the ultimate murky rain album. But it’s my favorite album ever so I could listen any time tbh.

Trouble is prob their “murkiest” album imo and I think that’s why it’s becoming my fav.

I love most of Trouble, but the fact that this is brighter, more triumphant, & upbeat in places compared to their others makes it one of their best. It's still depressing, but probably their most multi-dimensional and my favorite style of theirs. Only Boxer is better imo

It’s between that and Boxer for my fav but I think Trouble is edging out by just a tad.

I feel like I'm swimming in a thick soup of sadness when I listen to TWFM

It just has that “it” vibe and something special that pushes it over the top for me. This band is just amazing though.

This band is always in a sea of sadness. Although, there are plenty of blissed out islands they land on.

This is pretty much perfect. Probably my favourite album of the decade

Well damn, I’m loving this one after only one listen. Very immediate. I feel like this has more energy than Boxer, which I find appealing. It’s less subdued, which fits my tastes better.
Very early ranking this far:
High Violet > Alligator > Boxer > Sad Songs (half the songs are great and the other half...not so much)

This feels more like a cohesive album than Boxer as well. It has a really haunting, mournful vibe that I find appealing.

Man I wish I could hear this for the first time again.

That's an opportunity that I have at my fingertips and yet choose not to pursue.
