meh they’re both progressive death metal bands heavily inspired by 70s prog. not a lot of competition there.

Yeah and that’s where the comparison ends. The way they harness those influences are very different. Not that what you said was inaccurate, in fact I’d agree entirely in that Opeth’s are more naturally incorporated

BI’s latest sounds like a death metal band trying to be a 70s prog one. Opeth’s homage has never felt that blatant outside of the tracks where they dropped the metal entirely (like Benighted here being Camel-esque). Their progressive death stuff feels entirely their own whereas BI’s is a confusing mish-mash

tl;dr - basic splicing of genres comparison with different results

Oh for sure overall a weird comparison, wasn’t making a hard one but there were a couple riffs that screamed opeth to me on the message in particular. Enough so that I spun this immediately after my first listen. Also agree that this is timeless and much smoother between genres, even if the genres are different

yeah somewhat superficial comparison but it is interesting how they each choose to incorporate their 70s prog influences. opeth just make it look secondhand.

i've tried a lot of similar bands but nothing hits like opeth. truly one of a kind.

Opeth are definitely one of the greatest bands ever. Their discography is immense. Obviously when Mikael did the growls they were better but still, they are one of the best in the business.

not in extent, not really. Maybe if you're really into the first five Immolation records, or those five 00's ones from The Chasm, or maaybe Drawn and Quartered--but those are all pure-ish death metal.

It’s not even close to one of my favorite metal albums lol but it’s one hell of a riff fest if I’m in the mood for this. And booooi am I now!
