this album is really consistent. If you like those tracks I don't get why you dislike the rest, but whatevs

I didn't say I dislike it, said it went downhill. It's still solid material, I just lose interest

fair enough. It is pretty repetitive I guess, just depends on if you care for that kind of sound

I got real bored with Pale Companion the first several times I heard it. This one's an old-growth forest.

I still prefer Pale Folklore, but this one rules too

Man I know I've heard people say A Desolation Song is edgy poetry but it's hitting in a relatively uncomfortable way atm

Always love jamming this when the snow starts.
But….am I the only one who finds that bridge in the middle of Hawthorne Passage to be borderline unlistenable? Sounds like a 6th grader just bought a guitar two weeks ago and is trying to learn how to strum

it's a weird stylistic choice for sure but I don't find it too bad, especially when the acoustic comes back in.

I tried listening to it, and couldn't even figure out what butt was talking about. I never thought of anyone in Agalloch as virtuosos on their instruments, it's a band more about songwriting and atmosphere for me.
Case in point, listen to Of Stone, Wind, & Pillor. Off time everything, sloppy as hell performances across the board, absolute masterpiece:

I’m talking about the part that starts at 6:45. I’m being overly dramatic btw, it’s not bad, just a really silly guitar part that they could have written to not sound so elementary.
Someone recommend me something like this but instrumental

have you tried "A Celebration for the Death of Mankind", "Odal", "The Lodge", or "The Hawthorne Passage" by Agalloch? they sound a lot like this

Their EP The White is mostly instrumental. Not sure of any metal bands that sound quite like them aside from Bergtatt by Ulver, but there’s lots of dark folk out there like Nature and Organisation – Beauty Reaps the Blood of Solitude, October Falls – Marras (neither of which are on Spotify btw, at least in the US), and Ulver – Kveldssanger along with the new album Haavard by the guitarist who played on Kveldssanger. Sand – The Dynamic Curve is a very good instrumental ambient/electronic album that I reviewed and was a significant influence on this. https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/80652/Sand-The-Dynamic-Curve/
