Also deftones lyrics have always been kind of shit I mean who tf rly focuses on their lyrics lol. Knife party? Go get your knife and cut me? Sounds like some emo shit but that song rules. Always listened to tones for their atmosphere and screams/melodies. Diamond eyes fulfills both the heavier and more melodious side of deftones I love. It isn't the best thing on DE but it's solid imo. Hole in the earth is their best opener by a mile tho

I wouldn't say the tm scream is gone, though it depends on which scream exactly we are talking about. I'd say he still does his inhale banshee-like scream here and there and has done it on songs like Royal, Goon Squad, Doomed User etc. but his regular screaming technique has definitely changed and not for the better.
However I have it from reliable sources that his screams on the new LP have some old-era Chino power behind them.

the only songs here that are subpar are pittura and hearts/wires

how can you not focus on the lyrics while chino does what he does. also LOL at the vox being bette than what he belted out on rapture and rats, in fact he outdid himself there. fair enough if you don’t care for the lyrics but that line you mentioned, only chino could pull it off while saying the line after as sensual as he did.
