For years "Runaway" was easily my least favorite here but in the past couple/few years it has come to be arguably one of my favorites, a really key moment in the flow of the album.

I like runaway but i think it drags a bit. I wish it was a minute shorter

Agreed. This is total perfection otherwise tho

^ You see, that's how I used to feel. You'll all catch up to me eventually. ;-P
The more time passes the more I'm certain this is my favorite album.

I may have found my favorite National.

I'm so glad we so strongly agree on this band Boney

Yeah this album is basically flawless
|
| |
Has maybe their weakest closer
|
| |
100% agree with you Johnny, personally think it's the weakest song on the album (but it's still incredible imo)
|
| |
Oh yeah, it's still an alright track and this is pretty much above water from start to finish! Solid album

album doesn't really pick up till Little Faith for me honestly
wouldn't be the case if they went with the obviously superior Terrible Love version but what are you gonna do

Haha, yeah we may not agree on much else but at least we agree this band is Gospel.
And while on a certain level I agree Vanderlyle isn’t one of their best closers at the same time it’s still perfect. I can’t fault a single second of this album.

Little Faith is my favorite song here but I disagree w the rest of that statement rowbro

Sorrow is my favourite here :/
Little Faith is my least favourite here :/
Agreed the alternative version of Terrible Love is better

The alternative version might be “better” as a song on its own but I’ll always prefer the album version because I’ve just heard it way too many times. Plus I actually love the murkiness of the version here, it’s a perfect intro to this album’s atmosphere and I feel like the alt version kind of loses that.

Sorrow is, eh great lyrically but it has no juice musically I guess. it's fine. same with Anyone's Ghost which has a cool vibe but sounds like they forgot to write a chorus for it

Sorrow and Lemonworld are THE quintessential National 'understated brilliance' toons for me
That whole sound is sort of why I turn up for this band but I do get people National for other stuff. You'll always get that one contrarian dude who wants to throw shapes in the pit to Abel and Turtlehead or whatever
For me yer Sorrows, Slippeds, Lemon Worlds, Demons, Guilty Parties etc are where it's at

Lemonworld is a best National song contender, my favourite Berninger lyrics too

Add Daughters of the Soho Riots to that and we're good ;]
