I was trying to avoid listening to the bootlegs but I caved. Descending in particular sounds pretty great.

I assume the recording will be different than the live version anyway (which is why I'm not quick to judge the new material)
The live versions of their songs are generally close, but the studio versions are always gonna be more complex.

Sounds like a logical follow up to this one, and that's fine by me. [2]
I immediately thought they could sit comfortable between Lateralus and this. Looking forward to the album.

Wondering when the album will drop. I do think it will be a pretty sudden//without warning release. Which makes this particularly exciting.

Didn't Maynard dismiss the 'sudden release' idea on twitter?
I mean...it doesn't exclude the potential of it, but I figure they'd release a single first.

Huh not sure. Not really a twitter guy. I didn’t necessarily mean it would just drop completely suddenly one day with absolutely no indication or single in advance.
I’m thinking more along the lines of how 10k days was released. Vicarious was released suddenly as a single, then 10k Days was released soon after. A week or two maybe? But that was a different day and age so it’ll be interesting to see how they handle it now. I just hope it isn’t the typical album release announcement months in advance, then proceed to release half of the album leading up to it. Hating that trend lately.
I’ve gotten to where I avoid singles completely because they release so many and spoil the actual album release because it feels like you’ve basically already heard it. Even more so in Tool’s case where the album is really meant to be listened to as one complete entity, not a track at a time here and there. They’re definitely not a singles band.

Checked the new live stuff, sounded a bit too much like tool if that makes sense. But I should reserve any major judgements before hearing the actual product

Probably still figuring out how to jam the new stuff live

I liked the instgram snippet a lot. It that thing part of one of the new songs?

^Yeah it's a riff near the end of "Descending" - you can hear the whole thing in the recent news.

"What is there to enjoy about writing to a endless void?"
Sorry to bring up shit from the previous page, but I mean damn, it's almost like you can't comprehend that some people just enjoy writing for the sake of writing. It's a hobby like any other, and some people like doing it whether or not what they write gets read or not. I know you were just arguing with Sitar because he was being an asshole, but still.

The rest of the post was argument, that part was out of curiosity. Should have separated that. I don't see the appeal of writing for the sake of writing minus improving yourself to get better at it, but that's just me.

Some people simply just have fun writing. For some it is very therapeutic.

And yet here we all are, writing comments on a music website. What was your argument, out of curiosity?

That your attitude is unfitting for the position that you're in.
