Used to be no. 1 but I cannot keep from focusing on Mikael's lil burp at the end of the first growl in The Moor.

Took me a while to finally sink my teeth into this, but it’s finally clicking. I’m not sure I could name most tracks, except White Cluster which has some great riffing at the beginning, that wicked guitar solo in the middle of the song, and I love the quirky verse instrumentals.

Alright so this still has its magical moments, problem is they’re mostly packed within the first ten minutes (maybe)
Hmm, but it does suffer a little from having a discog standout right at the top. Benighted has also grown off me massively since I’ve become more familiar with softboi things
let’s see. Moonlapse is solid so far, but also does that lounge acoustic soft rock shite section
idk Morningrise does this nonsense more charmingly

I can’t remember Melinda happening, was always my least fave anyway
Serenity’s first half slaps, but then that weird transition hits soon…

The songwriting on this album is much more cohesive with smoother transitions across the board. Morningrise is my favorite Opeth album because of nostalgia, but it's a bit of through-composed jank. My Arms Your Hearse was pretty pivotal for their improvement in cohesive songwriting, but this is where they really hit their stride and balanced the dynamics of light and heavy really well.

This is #4 for me behind BWP, GR and MAYH. In any event, Opeth's Progressive Metal era can't be beat. They just haven't been the same since they abandoned the metal.
