I honestly expected this to be a 2.5 and it ended up pissing me off enough to earn a drop. Pneuma was my favourite and is in solid 3.5 territory. Gonna give this another listen soon out of curiosity though...

I don't hate the band - I respect their rhythm section and think Lateralus and Aenima are alright in their way. I do, however, think this is immensely disappointing structurally, creatively and (to a lesser degree) aesthetically for a number reasons. I'm not sure what you mean by pseudo genuine but can promise anything I wrote would be fully supported by reasoned arguments. If you genuinely don't believe such a thing is possible, I'm not sure you're in a position to point the finger at narrow or absurd perspective here.
