Riviere is a perfect closer imo but i kind of agree about the others.

How is Moana unfinished?

I think it was Abe who said something about him recording the drums for what he thought was a rough demo and that one recording was the one that went to the album. They pretty much rushed it last minute.

Listening to Ohms and then Prayers/Triangles to compare side-by-side really drives home how pitiful the mixing is on this record. The chorus riff is so buried that it deprives the whole track of all its potency

Ngl Ohms is the most I've liked a Terry Date production job since... idk, maybe ever? Homie actually put some fuckin mids in the guitar tone for once, good stuff

Yeah, side-by-side comparison really shows how perfect Terry's work in Ohms is. It even sounds much better than KNY and DE to me.

KNY had some of their best production ever though tbh, so lush.

yeah, I think I've read an in article in which Chino said that they were kinda forced to release s/t even though they wanted to add some details and shit. that's why it sounds so rough. you can especially hear it if you pay attention to the song endings for example. most of them simply fade out. it's a shame, cuz s/t really had potential if given proper time. but then again: its roughness is charming in its own way

I remember KNY being criticized big time when it got out cuz people found it to be "overproduced". now it is one of its best properties.

Na it sounds really good, especially the drums.
Diamond Eyes is the overproduced one tbh.

Personnally, I dig the production on both of them. But I am also a sucker for electronical effects and that stuff in general so maybe I'm biased.

Best part of being a Deftones fan and seeing the discussions of all the different albums or song rankings. A great example of their versatility despite a simple playing style.
Pink Maggit would definitely be my favorite closer of theirs. (2)
Agree 100% on both points. Pink Maggit ftw. The best bands are the ones where everybody has different favorite songs and albums. It very obviously means that they have so much great material that people’s favorites are bound to run the gamut.

Weird about self titled using demos, though date really must have pulled it together cause it sounds so good to me. I really like how de and kny sound, though I feel like de is clearer imo, I often don't like the vocal production
