They have the same kind of energy that it takes to walk from your bed to the coffee maker in the kitchen at 5:30 am

The National are the kind of band I want to listen to standing in the rain, after having my heart broken, while sipping a latte and reflecting on my life. It's like a sad classy.

It’s physically impossibly for me to listen to this (or any other National) without playing air drums

I’ve long considered this to be my joint favorite album of all time with 2 other albums, but as time goes on I get more and more convinced that this is my number 1 bar none.

National air drums [2]
Still prefer two other National albums to this one...although 'Sorrow' and 'Lemonworld' make me want to change my mind

so apparently, the lyric "sorrow's a girl inside..." is a common confusion. I've read on different websites "my cage" "my cave" "my cake" "a cake". Personally I always thought it was "sorrow's a girl inside my cave", like letting someone into your personal area that you normally wouldn't let other's in, and that's how i shall sing it, but I was wondering what y'all heard.

I think it’s ‘cake,’ referencing the whole hiding the stripper in the cake tradition. But ‘my cake’ tho

Yeah, i think that's a possibility and it fits the lyrics. I really can't hear any pronunciation after "ca..."

I just listened right now and yeah me neither haha I was like “dammit Matt..”
Now that I think about it tho I have seen Bryce or Aaron quote it in an interview once

I'm not measuring in time (yet) but I've been listening to this A LOT & usually I'd have given up by this point. Yeah that one might be even tougher, haha
