"Black Rose Immortal is probably my fave Opeth song"

"... I have no problems admitting that half of it belongs in the bin lol"

Huh

greater than the sum of its parts + the bad bits aren't outright bad, just pointless + the good bits are so good that it's easy to forget the pointless bits exist
a.k.a i'm stanning an opeth song by virtue of cognitive dissonance :]

"greater than the sum of its parts"

Yet you dislike/ are bored by half of the song? Weird

most of it doesn't stick around long enough to bore me (as per that timeframe breakdown). the first 4 minutes are the only reason I don't prefer it over this one's t/t

"4:04 - 4:12 is literal silence for no reason"
Truly the forefront of metal. John Cage and onkyo has left the chat

Okay Johnny you’ve gone too far this time, BRI is untouchable. I’m perplexed by you admitting that chunks could easily be cut, whilst simultaneously declaring it one of your favourites. Erm... are you sure? It’s quirky sure, and I completely get declaring it as a mess if you’re that way inclined, but your slant has me confused.

I have presented fax and logic that are probably mostly Ghandhi-verified, not much more to add tbh...other than (maybe) that so many of this band's tracks are almost frustratingly watertight that I'm q happy to see them knuckle down with a few risks and liabilities just to make the piece a more contoured ride (albeit to its own partial detriment), but that's v much personal preference

I pity the fool who doesn't swoon when Drapery begins.

using silence as a transition is like choosing c when you don't know the answer

it's what big brained songwriters do

"followed by a couple seconds of silence"

The typical human ear cannot hear below 20 Hz so that is likely yes
