fwiw it was the only post on this page that warranted a response (not at all interested in the copypasta or deftones chat, or whoever Bryce Savage, but maybe i was a little hasty to write off Chris Williamson's shirt (thank fuck we've preserved that for another page - excellent karma))

the issue isn't that it's r&b + trap + metal, it's that it's not a good rendition of any of those three genres in the first place. if the metal parts weren't here nobody into r&b + trap would care about this, and it's the same in reverse. compelling music should speak regardless of its genre - this says fucking nothing.
i think the sad thing is i see potential in what sleep token are getting at but it's just so surface level and lazy in this form. was hoping for more from the new single but it's just bad.

there will probably be a better band putting style they’re going for but better in the future. also, yeah maybe if one element was gone it wouldn’t win people over but guess what
that’s changing

Yeah I'm kinda with Noctus here. I don't think their music is necessarily bad, but it isn't good either. It's just well executed fluff that makes me feel absolutely nothing. Like modern gaming music dubstep. Adept, but hollow.

Exactly what I said in the new single thread and precisely true. This is the issue for me. Occasional songs strike the balance well. But mostly weak ass misses with no substance

@Emim I've joked about the band being the final coworker boss many times and then yesterday someone I work with actually told me to check them out, I just had to politely say "oh yeah I've heard of them"

definitely. i really like the songs 'the apparition' and 'chokehold' from this - they get the balance right and have good melodic phrasing and structure. the rest... yeah.

People losing their minds over the new song is hilarious. Never heard syncopation before
