was there a point where they full on announced hey we aren't a band circling around christian values anymore?

thing is they dropped james without even giving him a warning. they called him up two days before the tour straight up right after he already stocked the fridge with a months food for his family and were like "hey you're done" and then lied to fans on tour saying he was still in the band until he came out with all this stuff
such bullshit

I can definitely see a band that spent over two decades focused on Christian faith, suddenly rolling back on those beliefs and one of the members not being on-board with that, can definitely see that causing a sizeable rift between members which would also result in creative conflicts. Might have to come that they part ways, but like that? damn.

They would have at least gotten some tiny bit of respect from me and actually addressed it, stating "James has left the band due to personal differences, we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors" or SOMETHING. But they said nothing.

they did eventually post a statement about james and from what i remember it was not great and came way too late
plus like, of all the bands currently touring with falling in reverse (already a pretty shitty thing to do) theyve taken on a realllly shitty attitude about it. i had a (now deleted) argument with aaron about that where he just wanted to bury his head in the sand at the idea that someone he knows personally could have such a (in some cases legally) detailed history of (in some cases very recently) shitty behavior. fuckin loser

yeah, they posted this "statement" which could have been copy-pasted from any slew of bands before them that dropped a member and provided no reason:
https://loudwire.com/underoath-statement-split-guitarist-james-smith/
they did add this:
"This was an incredibly difficult situation and isn't something that can or should be addressed on the internet and we hope y'all understand,"
which to me sounds deeper than religious disagreements, possibly something legal

lol youre in communication with aaron gillespie of underoath?

Hmm, I missed that. Maybe so, I guess they thought James wasn't carrying his weight but Aaron and Spencer have completely taken over the writing process anyways. The other guys don't have much of a say as far as I'm concerned, maybe Tim does a little bit but still. Nothing against Grant and Chris but they get to keep their spots and they don't really do much

anode, maybe not a band of underoath's size but you'd be surprised, musicians/bands often respond on social media if you reach out friendly. Asked a number of artists questions regarding gear / album art / etc in the past and have gotten responses

"lol youre in communication with aaron gillespie of underoath?"

Kicking James out frankly isn’t the issue. Agree there are two sides to everything and who knows the nuance of their potentially fractured relationships. It was the fact they lied about it, didn’t give him any heads up, didn’t comment on it for a while, canceled meet n greets cause they didn’t wanna address it, etc
Just a shitty thing to do to your friend in my armchair opinion. Their music sucking now is just icing on that cake lol

I am surprised. Social media seems like the worst medium to communicate with fans
|
| |
Isn’t it funny how communication is the crux of interpersonal relationships and not the actions themselves?

kicking James out is an issue and how the handled it was shit, I think Aaron and Tim have brought into their own hype honestly and they come across as pretentious assholes. But in saying that my biggest problem is the shitty music they are putting together now. there is nothing in their music anymore it's just shitty generic radio rock.
