The way he expressed was very unfortunate but I can understand what he was trying to say. One thing is being anti-semitic/racist and another is trying to criticize or discuss certain forbidden topics. Sure many times they go hand on hand but it's not always the case and censorship in general just sucks imo. Today many things or comments are perceived as racist or anti-semitic because we've been raised in a world with that mindset, but cold headed analysis may reveal very interesting discussions. My two cents on this and I will say no more.
PS: I miss Agalloch

"John Haughm freely chose to break up his own band because he didn’t want bad press for being a big ol idiot who said a big ol idiot thing in public"
I thought it was the other members who decided to leave because of his comments but I may be remembering wrong. He could probably just apologize and continue pillorian at this point

What a damn TRAGEDY"
You're incredibly naive. Don Anderson got a full time Professorship at NYU and he didn't have time to commit to the band anymore in the early 2010's. Don trolled John Haugm for years who wanted to devote all of his time to touring and writing but Don pulled away. He left Jon Haughm with no other choice.

This happened in like 2018, it was completely different.

Was talking about Pillorian not Agalloch Don Anderson had nothing to do with any of it, but Meridiu5 is also a well documented Sput dipshit and not worth the effort so w/e

had never really thought about it in that context until this thread specifically, but doesn't neofolk have one of the longest standing relationships with anti-semitism of any genre anyway?
|

ironically the people most offended at such comments are the same ones who'd rather israel didn't exist

yeah, it’s almost like you can support Jewish people without supporting the actions of a rogue apartheid state

Yeah, amazing how Israel is a secular state until it’s convenient to use anti-semitism as a smokescreen to continue committing a genocide

"israel"
I would prefer that Israel force Arab nations to take in the palestinians so that Arab nations can stop pretending that palestinians are being oppressed by their own bad behavior.

I didn't find his Zuckerburg joke funny but the fact that it blew up this entire project was so dumb. Did the man really have to go live in the mountains because of that. The band disavowed him in like 2 seconds, overwhelming cringe all around
|
| |
doubt we'll ever know for sure either way, but i always had the sense that his bandmates past and present's haste to strike him off was a red flag that this wasnt an isolated remark
goodness knows what happened to the rest of that camel's back, but as final straws go, it most definitely was a cringe one all round
