yeah it seems like people fall into one of three camps: you like Albatross and Dealer, you like Nearer My God through now, or you kinda fuck with it all.
And all alone in his own fourth camp is BrushedRed who only likes the first two and this lol

"Anyone else find the aggressive vocals to be... grating, border-line annoying?
no. I'm happy to finally hear them scream again cuz they havent done it reliably since The Albatross. Thats like part of the appeal of The Albatross and then they dropped it for quite a while.

On that we can agree. Yeah the screams here are absolutely perfect, and Eric sounds great, like to the point where I sometimes can’t tell if it’s him or Conor. Wish he would’ve taken a bigger step up sooner, having a second vocalist, even if it’s just for shouts and screams, is a game changer for these guys imo

screams are not the best here (and outright grating on Hell 99), but this is partly because they're so unnecessarily high in the mix — I've heard worse on sput overhype albums (how many pages back was that Ohms discussion lol)

state faults def tops this for me. i love the hell out of this album but it is way way too inconsistent in the back end to be the aoty contender i was hoping for
been on the fence as to whether i wanna drop it down or not, but in its defense a looot of it is still hitting that ceiling

'no. I'm happy to finally hear them scream again cuz they havent done it reliably since The Albatross.'
I didn't expect them to ever do it again and was excited at first that they brought it back, but they don't even remotely resemble how they were used and sounded previously so it's not really a return to form in that regard anyway.
'to the point where I sometimes can’t tell if it’s him or Conor.'
That's part of what I didn't like, I don't know why they are trying to sound like each other, makes it seem generic. I don't mean to crap on this, I'm glad people are enjoying it.
