I knew a low protest rating review was coming for this band eventually, absolute banger of an album.
A lot of moments on this give me Blut Aus Nord vibes with those atmospheric BM style sections.
Probably yet another 5 fuckkkkkkk

Accessibility is not necessarily the synonym for mediocrity

I have enjoyed music a lot more once I stopped caring about it being "obscure" or "difficult", hooks are hooks for a reason, melody sounds good for a reason, if it works it works, I dont give a shit about something being easy or difficult for the general public to get into vs my uber sophisticated and refined musical palate.
Also people really get in their own rabbit holes about what accessible means these days, maybe to someone balls deep into obscure metal this is accessible but I dont think they are going to be winning a grammy any time soon, and I know damn well if I picked 20 people off the street and showed them this they would think its bonkers.
"Accessibility is not necessarily the synonym for mediocrity" this 10000%

The last few pages have been surprisingly solid to be fair. Nothing wrong with a little back-and forth, it's the mindless spam that grates
and yeah, nothing inherently negative about accessibility and the whole concept is subjective / highly dictated to by previous experiences anyway. All in the eye of the beholder etc.
gonna give this another blast later

dropping kendrick lines on an ulcerate review is really 2024
anyway, this is very much Stare Into Death - adjacent, which is a great thing, as that's the only Ulcerate that works for me start to finish. It'll probably take me week to digest it though, as this one is dense as all hell. I will say there hasn't been anything that grabbed my attention as strong as the opening of the T/T of Stare or Drawn Into The Next Void. I like when a song cuts straight to the chase and grabs you by the bollocks.
Still, a very enjoyable style and the atmosphere they weave is beautifully destructive, probably a top notch release. I think I slightly prefer Convulsing - Perdurance as far as this year's death metal releases go, but it's still far too early to tell. Looking forward to spamming this over the next week

yeah, after defending their right to develop upon an already fairly well-trodden formula. I’m getting why people might just be thinking this is nothing new
they’ve earned that right, just not sure I really needed it rn
given the choice of an EiF / Stare amalgam this is kinda attempting, I’ll just take either of the others depending on mood
still, it’s decent enough
