sirens/burden/sacrifice is a great final 3. this is what i wished i felt for djent is not a genre as much as I like it. so much more emotionally satisfying and captivating.

second half of altered state is one of the biggest fall offs on any album in the history of this style. goes from a 4/4.5 to a soft 3 the second the record is flipped
miracle they could ever do this

I feel like once one gets to the title track on the tracklist they either have two lines of thought, "woah where did THIS come from, why doesnt the rest of the album sound like THIS?!" (cough* me), or the other side "this is good but I want the album to go back to slow methodical vibe its had until now", thus, the title track should not even be on this album, maybe should have released as a standalone single or something, doesnt fit the vibe of the rest what's going on, its insanely weirdly placed in the tracklist too

I can see what you're thinking with that yeah

the title track in context works significantly better for me than it does standalone ngl. when they dropped it as a single i was lowk expecting this to be a disaster. that kinda sprawlingness needs a larger body attached to it i think. song feels a lot more purposeful as a part of the whole here, but on its own its a little janky

Song structures on this are way too predictable, I loved on Altered State where it just comes in with this weird funky djent riff out of nowhere, just weird transitions that they somehow made work, and the second of the album is very good

lmfao sure how dare they finally write something semi coherent for once
also thats not even rlly applicable when this album has maybe like four choruses on it and tons of winding deviations throughout. they just sound like the band actually thought about their choices for once. lmao

they have done it for 3 albums in a row now and it got boring by the 2nd one

other way around but yeah they started on a heavy dose of sleeping pills and dropped two major duds before waking up
miracle they could ever do this [2]

Snare drum is barely audible.

Altered State has a lot of choruses too, but the difference is there are so many things happening around the choruses that enhance it 10 fold. Song structuring not as predictable in the sense it's not verse 1 chorus 1, it could start with a chorus have a big instrumental break etc, which leads me to the fact that the music behind Dan on this album is boring 90% of the time. The only riff I can even recall is on the title track, the rest is just ambient soundscape. Truthfully, though a "djent "album, it's rare there's even a compelling djent riff to groove to on WoB. Altered State wasn't like that, the riffs had a compelling identity in themselves, it's one of the most grooving albums I ever heard, they went in tandem with Ashe perfectly. Ashe wasn't the sole focus on the album the entire time.

if the weird rhythms of the drums under the chorus of sirens is nothing happening then idk what to tell you lmao
the riffs of altered state seem like a weird hill to die on because there are barely any lmao. this def has more going on in that regard, even underneath dan's vocals. they arent really a riffs band tho i dont think. more about that groove

wtf are you saying dude, I said djent fucking riffs, djent riffs are fucking groove riffs, and Altered State has WAY more distinct and memorable ones than on this basically interstellar soundtrack sounding album

like even in this style, since when are we calling single note chugs "riffs"
ive jammed altered state quite a bit and do not remember anything on it that wasnt that, which tbh means if there was anything outside of that it was probably not memorable lmao
|
| |
Yeahhhh, calling Altered State's chugs "riffs" is a bit generous, and this is coming from an Altered State fanboy

fine, the chugs are WAY more distinct and memorable than ones on this basically interstellar soundtrack-sounding album

but Altered State does have some funky riffs too... like, wtf, on the very first song, 3:04, is that not a riff?? this is the type of stuff that I miss from the older stuff, and in terms of chugs, both Of Mind tracks absolutely dominate in this regard, not even close
