People on this site missing that you should always consider the reviewer when reading reviews.
Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but neither Johnny nor Pika really jive with this genre in general. Pika has 1'd three Periphery albums, and has 1s for Northlane's Discoveries & Singularity, while giving Alien and Obsidian a 3.5. All of which indicates that Pika's taste in this particular realm might as well be the exact opposite of mine.
The opinion is just as valid as anyone else's, but it's not a "hot take" when they give this shit a 1. In fact, that take is perfectly in line with their preferences historically. I don't know who I'm writing this for I just don't feel like working at the moment.

I find it a joy watching Matt on the drums. His mix on this album is perfect BTW, it sounds like I'm sitting right in his lap when I listen through my earbuds. Overall, I think the album mix is about the same as HS, maybe slightly better even. As far as the songs, I need to listen to the album in it's entirety a few more times before I compare it to the last album. I just got a chance to listen to it for the first time this morning and I'm on my 3rd listen. So far I'm really enjoying and it's comparable to HS in regards to song quality.

I love first two Tesseract albums
So you can't say I hate the genre entirely
I also somewhat vibe with a few songs off p 4 (not the bookends) and p 1

Yeah this is produced basically IDENTICALLY to Hail Stan lol I'm really missing the Satellites type of songs, Thanks Nobuo sort of does it but doesn't hit as emotionally hard for me.

Oh for sure. I don't think you hate it, but I think "doesn't jive with this genre in general" is fair. More often than not you dislike albums in this realm I would think. I very well could be wrong, just giving an example here.

I also enjoy Textures, Jinjer, Fellsilent, Erra, and Sikth
Do they count?
It's shit like early Northlane, Volumes, and Vildhjarta that I can't stand though

Yeah that tracks. If you also don't like Fallujah then I think I had you pegged correctly. This corner of the genre ain't for you.

That's fair. Looking through Pikazilla's 5 star ratings, we have a lot of shared favs like Glassjaw for example. My point earlier was just that I felt like the reviewer was being a bit unfair. But again, I'm not knocking anyone for their personal opinions, I just think rating this a 1 is a little silly imo because I reserve 1 ratings for stuff like Asking Alexandria.

I like the first Fallujah record + Nomadic
Then they lost me entirely

Depends on how you personally rate. Some people take 1 to be exclusively "This is bad music objectively*" and some people take 1 to mean "I really don't like this and wouldn't listen to it regardless of whether it is considered to be "good music"".
Sputnik has a healthy dose of both types of reviewers.

Even that's a stretch imho, they have pretty good melodic tendencies even if their early stuff is a bit too goofy and cheeky. That last album especially.

Never got into this band, but didn't want to miss out on all the fun in this thread. Currently through the first 8 songs and the thing that bothers me most is the vocalist. Dude is a vocal chameleon and can parrot any singers style. I first noticed it when I kept getting Craig Owens vibes in certain parts. By the next verse he would be doing the Memphis May Fire guys style and then mimicking a pop star when the chorus arrived. I can't figure out what his own voice/style actually sounds like. Each song felt like he was just doing impressions of other vocalist.

Periphery as seen through the eyes of a Scene Queen.

They like wearing their influences on their sleeves a lot.
Bands like Meshuggah, Shezzers, TDEP, and Protest The Hero could be heard in their songs.
