its a based take in that at least its not his worst and metallica are def the worst thing about it

we also never would have gotten ziggy stardust without transformer and berlin so its quite curious

Enjoyed this a decent amount on first go. Still feel like the vocal style is their weakest link (wish Isaac all the best of course though) but it works better here than on the debut for sure. “Snow Globes” is pretty amazing.

If I had to pick a few words to describe this album they'd be:

longing, melancholic, lush, passionate, sentimental, male vocals, bittersweet, poetic, alienation, introspective, love, progressive, chamber music, epic, lonely, abstract, complex, depressive, warm, breakup, serious, autumn, atmospheric, suspenseful, anxious, existential, melodic, anthemic, sombre, romantic

a lot of this is compelling in the way it paints a picture of Isaac's mindset, and his recent statement definitely adds a lot of weight to that. Instrumentally it seems a lot more mature than FTFT too. pretty impressive evolution for a band to have in under a year. a good amount of it is a bit of a dour slog though innit

This one certainly feels much more genuinely emotive where as For the First Time had this air of pretension overhanging it that really held it back for me. “Chaos Space Marine” had me worried this would be more of the same in that respect, that song seemed pretty dire but “Concorde” immediately stepped it up.

album is definitive proof that any amount of synonyms for "whiney" that start with the letter W can be applicable to an album and still be tolerated by johnny as long as the singer is not from north america

also Concorde is pretty good but it and Bread Song are both a little too long winded and drawn out. Good Will Hunting is a highlight, they're good at adding a bit of dissonance to an otherwise fairly plain melody to add some tension without trying too hard. Basketball Shoes is too disjointed to justify its length
