Ahh, my favorite. When someone insists a band quit making music because they don’t like it. Shame on you, honestly. Whether I like a band’s music or not I’m never going to insist that they quit making music for my benefit. Let them do what they love. I think it’s awesome when musicians keep going even when they’ve exhausted every last idea. I think it’s awesome how much they love to make music

To me it's one of the most enjoyable songs here tbh. Love the variations on the melodies and riffs. Cool stuff honestly

That’s a few pages of mindless hot takes that’s for sure. Dudes trying to fill the pasta thread, but the salt isn’t good enough.

Listened to the first few tracks. Liked what I heard. I didn't listen to the last couple albums but maybe I should go back and check them out too

I couldn't imagine expecting a classic from the boys at this stage of their career. This is Maiden at 80% capacity of their peak, and a damn fine effort at that.

Up the irons! We're lucky to have them...

""It's a grower" my ass. Album still sucked after my 6th listen. I want you guys to really listen to one of their classic albums, and then this right afterward. You are fucking lying to yourself if you think this is on par with their classic output. Senjutsu is the sound of a band who has absolutely nothing left to say"

They are somewhat a different band though, and in fact sometimes i'm more in the mood for post 2000 maiden then pre. Sometimes i'm more in the mood for classic maiden.

This is actually where you're not seeing it, 'so understand, stop wasting time and listening to music you only regard now as the golden years, face up, and understand, the music now is different but still as good as the golden years'

In its own way. It still sucks after 6 listens because youre listening to it everytime wanting the classic maiden and because you made an early stand on it, you want to prove it that it still sucks.

But someone like me who was more open minded about it and appreciate post 2000 maiden, (its not the classic stuff i agree - but then again wasted years wasnt the classic sound either) has just found this has naturally grown on me.

What sounded boring and repetitive slowly twisted into enjoyable and understanding why they wrote the song this way, what didn't make sense before now does sort of thing.

Maiden have always had the maiden sound, they've never really deviated too much, SIT is probably their biggest change in a way but even then it was still very maiden, so to criticise the band NOW to say they still sound the same but not as good, nothing new, its a bit of a weak argument.

They have actually experimented with their sound somewhat on this album with the more overt addition of the synths as well.

Here's the thing though, I don't hate it because it's modern Maiden. I thought Book of Souls was fantastic, I have a soft spot for Dance of Death and Brave New World is top 5 Maiden material all day. I don't hate it because its "modern Maiden", I hate it because the songs on Senjutsu just don't hold up in regards to anything else they've ever recorded.

I really don't like AMOLAD, but I can at least say it's a competent record with a couple really solid tracks. Senjutsu is just a hot mess from front to back. Its chock full of garbage production, weak and derivative compositions, 8-12 minutes songs that go absolutely fucking nowhere, and sloppy performances from top to bottom.

The reason the longer compositions on Brave New World, Dance of Death, and Book of Souls worked is because they actually had a reason to be that long. The songs went places, they had layers, distinct and engaging sections, and most importantly, they had the energy to keep them afloat. The longer tracks on this album simply don't warrant these ludicrous runtimes. I think the worst offender on Senjutsu would be the title track. It's literally 8 minutes of Maiden doing an auditory burnout; repeating the same thing for 8 minutes until it mercifully ends.
