Masters of Rain and Storm is the best thing these guys have ever done.

i don't like underworld aurora as much as others here, easily my least favorite track but other than that they are all bangers even the outro

Hard for me to pick between Diadem or the extended vinyl version of Two Hunters for best

this is my second least favorite tho, feels like they lost a bit of their earlier magic during the hiatus. Still a really good album tho

Two Hunters is really hard to top.

I think they lost a little bit of magic after the hiatus, but not much. Both records are more than worthy additions to their catalogs. I was pretty blown away by this one

Celestial Lineage is a great album, but it's probably my least favorite of the pre-hiatus albums not counting Celestite

this feels more generic than their other albums -- the songs are generally tighter but at the expense of the wandering nature of their earlier stuff, which I really enjoy. they've also leaned into the trendy, kitschy olde pagan magick shoppe vibe on their socials, which irks me. I don't want Scorpio-rising black metal, I want majestic wilderness laments.

but this has been pretty successful, so what do I know

I agree, the personality has been stripped back more in favor of a more generic (and somewhat....cringe) aesthetic, but the actual nuts and bolts are solid that it somewhat makes up for that. It's really the best thing you could hope for with a black metal band nearly 20 years into their career

yeah I'm on board with that. at a certain point, being able to make something solid but clearly different than the rest of the discog is a good box to check. Ulcerate went melodic, Converge brought on CW, Leprous let Einar loose, Winterfylleth went folk...sometimes just something new hits a welcome reset button in a dicog.

Underworld Aurora is the best song here why is it being slandered

Also the only time this band was teetering on the edge of losing their magic was the celestial lineage / celestite era but even cl is pretty good

I'm a sucker for CL because I first saw/heard them on that tour. had a blind (deaf?) date on a friend's advice and walked away absolutely stunned by Thuja Magus and Prayer.
