Just to set the record straight, Ringo Starr beat his wife more times than John Lennon beat his. Lennon hit his wife once while drunk, whereas Ringo reportedly got into frequent drunken fights with his wife, finally entering rehab when he nearly killed her in one of them
No particular reason for posting this except to say that context is alllllllways important and that while I'm perfectly fine with X being dead and not being able to harm anybody any longer, we should be focusing less energy on celebrating his death and more on fixing the systemic societal problems that caused him to grow up and develop into such a violent person

Lennon's wife wrote a book where she said he shoved her into the wall once after seeing her dance with another man, but that was supposedly the only instance of actual physical abuse
Either way though he was definitely a violent, fucked-up person during his younger years, but that plays into the context point -- once you establish that someone is a shitty individual, determine why they got that way and attempt to take preventative measures to help others from following that same path
