Best Beach House easily [2]

its either this or one of the first two. the rest are a blur

OTM all the way. DC and Bloom have this beat as well. 7 lacks majesty.

I agree, OTM is their peak.
7 is their most dynamic record though, I find it difficult to compare it with the rest.
I love to shovel snow while listening to this one.

lol the band is far too banal to command majesty across any whole album - their drippy cliches just don't have the weight for it (OTM starts off strong, but throttles itself badly pushing for this). this does much better pushing for murk + mystique, and it's their only alb with dynamic songwriting from end to end
+ being their first album with competent percussion helps a ton

I'm not a muso, and I've never written a song in my life. I appreciate music for the way it makes me feel. OTM makes me feel like I've taken MDMA when I haven't. 7 is somewhat of a chore to listen to now (Drunk In LA, Woo, Dark Spring, and maybe Dive aside).
So yeah, not sure about the songwriting and percussion, but I don't feel much murk or mystique.

yeah this opts for mystique over all their best qualities

Drunk in LA is the only truly memorable song here for me. Great song.

Nah, the whole album is amazing, especially the stretch from "Lemon Glow" to "Black Car".

to me the album starts very memorably.

one of the best bad band / great album pairings of the century so far

stellar one, might be their best

7 and once twice melody are my favourites for sure. My ranking of their albums would just be in reverse chronological order, with the exception of depression cherry (too many misses) and thank your lucky charms (which was just b-sides of depression cherry I suspect).

this is like their third worst probably but obviously still really good. some bands are just incapable of making bad music
