So I'm giving this a second chance right now.
I still can't see much that sets this apart from presumably many other country pop releases. What I'm guessing is going on here is that, for a lot of people, the very small things that make this album distinct from its peers have somehow unlocked and enabled a personal connection that its peers can't achieve. Something about its small little touches in this direction or that have luckily hit a sweet spot. Maybe something about this cultural moment has created a click with this very particular way of doing country pop. For those who get it, this record really stands. For those of us on the outside, it is baffling as to why this record in particular in getting this sort of praise. It's take on the genre does not seems appreciably special to warrant being single out.

That can definitely happen on this despite escaping most trappings of country.

Could be yeah nightbringer! I don't know a lot of country, that's for sure. This just doesn't do anything special for me, I just don't get it. Sometimes happens, just shrug your shoulders and move on.

Most of this barely sounds like a country record so if I were to guess I think that's what made it so appealing to a wider audience. It's country for people who don't normally like country.

Same lol, although that was when I thought all country sounded like Florida Georgia Line or Kip Moore. With that Brandi Carlile record and a couple of others, I'm beginning to really warm up to it.

Honestly, I'm at a total loss - also listened to 'Same Trailer' today, equally generic/bland.
Insta 1.5
The fact I find her voice very cloying/baby'ish probably doesn't help.
Actually wanted to switch to Christmas music as it has more grit than this stuff.
