Monarchy has Sand Baptism and some other decent tracks but I find it a bit boring otherwise. But yeah it's still light years better than The Work

Are they worthwhile to catch live? They are coming to town tomorrow and I am still somewhat undecided...

When i saw them in 23 they where kinda flat for me. The sax backing track was horrendous and they shouldnt have bothered

saw them on their recent european tour and they were pretty great, also bringing the sax live.

I feel ripped off lmao. The set times for the show i was at where The Ocean, Rivers, NeO. So after The Ocean crushing it they did fall flat

Yeah they had a sax backing track when I saw them supporting Lorna Shore in Dec '23. The definitely brought less energy to the stage, but that was probably exacerbated by being sandwiched in between Ingested & the aforementioned Lorna, both bringing everything.

Thought I'd check this out again as I keep hearing it get compared to Ne Obliviscaris. Although a decent album with some great musicianship, I couldn't rate it as being better than anything Ne Obliviscaris has put out. It might translate better in a live setting, I'd be tempted to put down to a 3.5 compared to last time I heard it.

I would say this album is on par with NeO's worst output (which is still pretty damn good)

AI overview on the meaning of the album:

-The album Where Owls Know My Name is part of the band’s conceptual four-season cycle: spring (first album), summer (second), autumn (this album), etc.

-The lyricist (bassist vocalist Adam Biggs) approaches the lyrics quite personally — the album reflects themes such as ageing, memory, isolation, mortality.

-In an interview they mention that the band likes to integrate “emptiness” in the sound (for instance a “strange delay setting with a flanger” on vocals in Hollow) to evoke a feeling of emptiness.

I didn't know shit was that deep

This album rocked my damn socks off, and was definitely AOTY. I don’t Willy nilly 5’s on albums I just like a lot. This one is an all timer though. But yeah, just haven’t been able to enjoy or care about much from them since, outside of a couple songs (The Void and House of Light mostly).
