For me personally Ride the Lightning resonated more because I think it's a little catchier and faster paced. But this is starting to edge it out. It's a little heavier, darker, and has more mature songwriting. If the title track to Ride the Lightning is a journey, the title track to this album is an epic quest for the ages.
At any rate both albums are incredible so it doesn't matter too much which is better.

This album has the black album syndrome, some songs have been overplayed or overrated to the point of being annoying. In my case I never cared for battery o MoP no matter how hard you try to convince me that it's one of their most technical songs in their career. I simply could never get into them.

overrated. Anyone with taste knows justice is the best Metallica album, and even that isn’t better than rust.

honest to god I really don’t get the huge amount of love for this record. Maybe it’s because I’m young, but it’s just not all that anymore. There are tons of bands that have done thrash better since this record came out, including Metallica. Justice is their peak.

It’s really not about who did it better after this, it’s about how this album represented setting a standard for others to attain.
