"I've been following Lorde from the very start (was popular in NZ at least 6 months before Royals exploded), wanted to love this but I can only bring myself to like it"

i appreciate these opinions. I disagree, but I can understand why

I just did a very bad thing...I checked this for a third time.

That means Doof Ranked/Rated (be warned):

1. Supercut [3] The vocal on the chorus is the hook of the song really, otherwise standard.

2. Green Light [2.5] Yup, sorry, this is the next best thing. Also, as it's track 1 the vocal monotony hasn't kicked in when you listen to this (unless you're shuffling or whatever)

3. Hard Feelings/Loveless [2.5] this must be where people are finding 'ambitious' material here. She shuts up for a bit, letting an instrumental faintly 'Eastern meets industrial' vibed section take over, which is nice enough (Fever Ray not exactly shitting herself though).

4. Perfect Places [2.5] the big show stopper, a bit too obvious about it for my liking - and still has those vocal melodies that go stop starty 'duh-duh-duh-duuuh' on every syllable like 90% of them here. At least all the musical layering pays off.

5. Sober [2.5] ever since Bieber did that song that sounds like this all pop sounds like this. It makes me want to spin an MGMT song and that can't be good. It's alright, tribal pop-lite, boring melodies.

6. Homemade Dynamite [2] 'a couple of rebel Top Gun pilots', sounds like your goose is about to be cooked love. Very average pop tune, just sounds standard, like Little Mix would have rejected this :/

7. The Louvre [2] the 'boom boom boom' makes me laugh a little, like a 13 year old girl trying to put on a husky sexual voice. Cute? No, awkward.

8. Sober II [2] now we head into the really choppy waters, as the ballad material goes this is the least offensive, the strings and the bass make this palatable.

9. Liability [1.5] This is offensive. Annoying cloying piano melodies, her gruff voice sounds horrific in the verses but i guess that's her thing so fans love that, the chorus sounds a bit like Lisa Germano so that's something ok about it. Like the freckly posh girl at school playing piano in assembly, annoyingly precocious...

10. Writer in the Dark [1] ...but not as annoying as this. What a slog. Hate every vocal melody on this, including the Kate Bush-y shrill bits.

Overall/ 2 (just)

The reprise? F that, 0.5

I'm only checking this because of the hype and the 'transcends most pop out there' angle - just think she's short of genuinely excellent hooks/melodies. It's all pretty much standard 'Pop in 2017' - not ground breaking, no future pop standards among these songs. It's ok at best in my admittedly terrible opinion.

The vocal style of de-li-ve-ring - ev-er-y syllable like that isn't my thing either, which doesn't help. Plus some of her vocal tones sound annoyingly affected to me, but all personal taste no doubt.

Perhaps doof just needs to broadcast the boom boom boom and make 'em all dance to it

Gonna jam this, I skipped Pure Heroine for some reason.

Heard nothing on here is like Green Light? I love that song.

I will make this statement, she drops f-bombs so slyly it's ridiculous.
