I'd say that Crash Love as a whole is such a grower experience. We've Got The Knife is a track I thought was kinda terrible for the longest time but it's definitely one of my favorites now

Picked this up again today and I have to say the one-two punch of Summer Shudder and The Interview is one of my favorites from AFI.



Summer Shudder has one of their best choruses and that little *peeko peeko peeko peeko peeko" sound in the chorus of The Interview is everything.

I can see myself bumping this up to a 4.0 in the near future but this album would be so much better with the first 3 songs cuts. The production on Prelude and Kill Caustic is so hollow and the songs themselves are just okay, though Prelude feels like a poor imitation at trying to make another Miseria Cantare. Then Miss Murder just sucks outside of the admittedly fantastic bridge.



Everything post-Miss Murder is A+ material.

Kill Caustic has grown on me a lot more but it's so hard to get over it sounding like a demo track. I think I'm always going to be biased against Miss Murder because little elementary school me was in LOVE with Sing the Sorrow (still one of my all-time favorites) and Miss Murder was not only drastically different, but all the kids in middle school were acting like AFI was some awesome new shit and pretended their other stuff didn't exist, which made edgy teen me resentful.

I'm biased against the song now because it prevented me from listening to such a great album for 15 years.

Kill Caustic sounds too much like them trying to throw in a harder tracker to appease that crowd, but Davey's voice was shot during this record for that style, and it shows in the recording itself. He wouldn't get solid screams back until the Crash Love tour.

Miss Murder has always been overhated when it's got some of the most variation compared to the rest of the songs on this album. Plus the bass fucks hard in it.



Kill Caustic is fun, I kinda like Davey's shot screams, has a nice rough style, even if it's unintentional.
