When there is a noticable amount of people who dislike an album you usually get some decent criticism on it.

Here it's just either 'it's so bad' or 'this is just like 'meaningless comparison that makes no sense''.

I can't be bothered writing about why I think this is mediocre. It bores me to listen to it and it'd probably bore me equally to write about it

Here it's just either 'it's so bad' or 'this is just like 'meaningless comparison that makes no sense''."

The problem is they used to both be expirimental, controversial, outspoken artists who used politics sparingly and appropriately; now they are making run-of-the mill, pandering, superficial music that sounds like theme music to a Bernie Sanders rally.

They cuss every other line like a rebellious 9 year old and the whole album just sounds really childish/pretentious - reminds me of that south park episode about College-Know-it-all-hippies. It just comes across as douchey frat music 100%

The production and raps aren't bad, it's the concepts in the lyrics.

Thieves is about non-existant problems? 2100? Thursday in the Danger Room? The lyrical content hasn't changed much from record to record, either.

I mean i hate libtard beta pussyfag college cunts as much as the next man, but i don't hear anything in the lyrics enough to detract this from being just damn enjoyable

The point I'm making is that a number of songs on the album deal with pressing social issues, which is something they've always done to some extent. It's not nearly as different as you're making it out to be.

They've more or less sucked since Run The Jewels began and Killer Mike started refering to himself as "activist" instead of rapper. Every RTJ album has 1-3 good/excellent tracks and the rest is basically mixtape quality rap.

Sorry but "America is fascist!" isn't a pressing social issue, it's just dumb. It wasn't as bad when it was woven into the album and done creatively, like Reagan. Now it's just a bunch of rhyming, whiny, SJW platitudes thrown crudely into the tracks, all made infinitely worse by the fact that these two actually think they are political figures because they shilled for Bernie.

The way they preach to "the kids" when neither of them could pass a polisci 101 class is too much for me to enjoy this.

Boiling the album down to "America is fascist!" is blatantly reductionist in a way that I can't even argue with, so you win? If you didn't like the approach to begin with I can respect that, and that's cool if you didn't. I just wasn't seeing how this record is much different from the previous two in that regard - really I still don't.

But you do you, my guy.

I haven't paid much mind to the lyrics, just don't like their delivery and flow together and think the music is pretty homogeneous sounding

If you can't tell this album is much more overtly political you aren't paying attention.

Their previous RTJ albums had 2 tracks at most about anything you could remotely call political.

This album throws in a cringe-worthy line about politics in almost every song and has multiple drawn-out garbage tracks like kill your masters and thieves.

And it's not reductionist. The political problems they bring up all boil down to "Amerikkka is racist! Trump is the devil!" in a verbose form. It's incredibly dumb and you couldn't bring up a valid social issue they deal with on this album if you tried.

"you couldn't bring up a valid social issue they deal with on this album if you tried" -> The value of rioting as a form of political resistance.

I think you're confusing "not actual social issues" with "political stances and commentary I don't like"

Sounds like the title of a polisci 101 paper to me.

But yeah encouraging mindless rioting over police "murders" that weren't actually murders (self defense) like Mike Brown is what passes for deep political commentary these days.

sorry but when there's forensic evidence that blatantly disproves your "political stances" it's simply just not an issue.

Has nothing to do with my opinion. It's just painfully dumb. I am willing to listen to political opinions I don't like (immortal technique), this isn't an example of that, it's just stupid debunked left-wing talking points that only freshman in college take seriously.

So you're saying evidence has debunked every police shooting in recent American history with a racial component and so it's a total non issue. Because if even one shooting was motivated by race or has a substantial racial component as an influencing factor that's worthy of discussion.
