Alright. Bumped to 3.5 - I expect it could keep growing. The difference is I'm now hearing the fragility in the vocals - read as I'm beginning to feel the emotion in a way I wasn't before.

I remember earlier you said it sounded like he was holding back (was that you?) but seems to me like he is just trying to keep his shit together, trying to play it cool, but can't.

The vocals sounded affected to me at first but not so much anymore. I still feel that a bit in places though.

I do still feel the arrangements could do a little more but again it's possible that with more listens I'll start to "get" it a bit more, stop looking for something else and just accept it for what it is.

Tom Waits plays a style that has some similarities to one of the styles Nick Cave uses (particularly the bluesy stomp on Firstborn is Dead), and no one's really comparable to Tom Waits anyway, least not from Swordfishtrombones on, so you kind of have to make due. Likewise with Cave, but Cave switches up his sound album to album more, so there's a wider range of difficult to make comparisons

both Nick Cave and Tom Waits are in their own musical stratospheres so that's about it for common ground. and that they're both badasses. and that both have absolutely gobsmacking discographies. and that you should give both of them all your bloody attention.

Nice rating bump Boney, the album was more melodic than I first suspected so maybe it'll bump up again when you get to 10 or so listens
