Is it just because of Skiba or for other reasons?
|
| |
skiba is awful for sure
his vocals are bad and the lyrics are even worse
the music itself just seems like blink-182 trying to make blink-182 sounding songs
they definitely sound like blink-182 songs
really, really uninteresting ones
but the main issues with the album are the vocals and lyrics.

I do have to agree with you on the lyricism, especially in the songs that are blatantly pandering to the teenage demographic (you're in your forties, time to move onto different lyrical topics)
But I enjoy Skiba's tone quite a bit, and I think he was a fine replacement vocalist.
The music is basically typical Blink-182 music, although honestly other than the highlights this is wearing off on me a bit and I'm lowering it to a 3.5

Thanks man, honestly I'm trying not to be as attention hungry as it's a legitimate problem I'm trying to work on. That's why I changed my name, stopped referencing the fact that I'm Snide in my list titles, and keep my musical projects to lists only (and not spamming loads of news articles about it)

"nice dude and stay away from beyonce spamming and you're good 2 go, proud of u"
Thanks bro, that's the plan.
Back to the album though, I was really hoping that there would be a track similar to "I Miss You" on here.
|
| |
what'd you think of neighborhoods in comparison to this pots?
|
| |
my expectations were set pretty low after hearing Bored to Death
and then even lower after hearing the other 2 singles
honestly i wasnt expecting to even find one song that would stick out enough to repeat jam like their old stuff
and definitely the general mood of the album makes it apparent theres not gonna be any I Miss You's here unfortunately

i liked Neighborhoods much much better

there are a few tracks on here that're pretty decent. They're not much more than just decent, but they're listenable. I don't get the complaints about the vox tho.

Neighborhoods had Up All Night, which is one of my favorite Blink tracks ever.

Theres this thing a lot of pop punk bands like to do, especially one with vocalists pushing old age, where they modulate their vocalists to sound cleaner and a little younger. It's not overwhelming enough to turn most people off, but the tone of it is present enough that its grating as all hell. Another example that comes to my mind is Pennywise on their last few records or Yellowcard.

I think I can hear that now. It sort of sounds like his voice is autotuned without actually fixing his tuning?
|
| |
Its a modulation effect if im correct, its to keep up with the polished production so you dont have grit with all the cleanliness of this record. Id like these kinds of bands a lot more if they displayed that they were old, but still having fun instead of forcing the idea that they never stopped making albums in the first place.

The lyrics on here are definitely abysmal. My main complaint is lazy songwriting, and that plays into a lot of the lyrics, vocals, song structure, etc.
